Neck pain is a common problem that can affect people of all ages and fitness levels, with the incidence increasing with age. There are many causes of neck pain, including injury, poor posture, whiplash, and others, which can lead to degeneration and arthritis. Neck pain is often accompanied by headaches and referred symptoms to the face, shoulders, arms, and fingers.

There are a variety of successful treatments available for neck pain, the effectiveness of which depends on the cause, history, previous injury, severity, and duration of the symptoms. At Peak Performance, our therapists will provide you with advice and exercises to improve posture, and may recommend spinal adjustments by chiropractors, remedial massage therapy, physiotherapy, or other ancillary treatments such as ergonomic equipment or professional pillows to support good sleeping posture. Exercises to improve the alignment of the neck and shoulders may also be helpful.

In addition to addressing physical factors, it is important to address emotional stress and mental health as they can contribute to neck pain. Peak Performance encourages patients to practice postural exercises, mindfulness and meditation, and seek support from counsellors or psychologists if necessary.

To relieve neck pain, it is important to take breaks from sitting in front of a computer or phone, maintain good posture and relaxation of the jaw, sleep in a supportive position, and move frequently to prevent stiffness. It is also important to follow your treatment plan and make regular care a part of your routine.
